It is located within the Nicolet unit of the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest and is administered by the US Forest Service. The Chequamegon–Nicolet National Forest (/ ʃ ɪ ˈ w ɑː m ɪ ɡ ən ˌ n ɪ k ə ˈ l eɪ /; the q is silent) is a 1,530,647-acre (6,194.31 km 2) U.S. National Forest in northern Wisconsin in the United States.

Location: From the intersection of U.S. Highway 45 and State Highway 70 in Eagle River, go east on Highway 70 7.6 miles, then north on Military Road 2.9 miles, then northwest on FR 2178 (Anvil Lake Road) 1.6 miles to an old logging road and a gate on the west side of the road. Walk west on the logging road 0.5-mile to the site.
